About Grief and the body

The Body Remembers

Although grief is primarily a psychological wound, there is an undeniable connection between body and mind. Grief can manifest itself in many physical ways: tightness and pain, headaches, stomach problems, and sometimes even an aching chest that feels as though your heart is literally breaking. The grief movement process aims to release these emotions from your body so that you can find healing while dealing with grief.

Grief Movement

The grief movement process for dealing with grief is simple and so wonderfully cathartic. Various poses and exercises are designed to help open you up to release in your body and mind. Through breath, sound, and movement, we will find healing through the grieving process and often long-ignored wounds that have come to the surface after a loss.

Who can do it?

Grief movement is not typical grief yoga. Every move I teach can be done from a chair or a standing position. I encourage you to get in touch and try it.

The Five Stages of Grief Movement

Grief Movement

  • Stage 1: Awareness: To become aware of our grief and where it is being held in our bodies.
  • Stage 2:  Expression: Explore ways to use movement, breath, and sound to use the pain as fuel for healing.
  • Stage 3: Connection: Coming from a place of separation in grief, connection is a way to embody love, gratitude, and even forgiveness.
  • Stage 4:  Surrender:  Help to get still and let go - not letting go of the love, but of the hurt and the pain.
  • Stage 5:  Evolution:  Recognize that you can honor your loved one by living a life of happiness and purpose.
