My Story & Tools For you

How Adrian Grief Support Began

My name is Kym Hinchey. After my son Adrian died, my whole life blew apart. Three months later, my husband John died too. A year after that, my dog. I felt cursed. Angry. Completely alone. The rest of the world kept going, but mine had stopped. I moved through the days like a stranger in my own life, pretending to be ok when everything I loved was gone.

I couldn’t find the support I needed. Most people wanted to fix me, cheer me up, or hand me a list of stages like grief was a checklist. I didn’t need that. I needed someone who could sit in the wreckage and say, “Yes, this is horrible,” and stay there. Someone who understood there was no fixing this.

I was a Certified Life Coach, but nothing prepared me for that kind of loss. Later, I trained with grief expert David Kessler and learned how to show up for others the way I had needed someone to show up for me.

I named Adrian Grief Support after my son because eventually, no one said his name anymore. And I needed to hear it. To see it. He is still as much a part of my life as he ever was.

Now I help others living with loss find small moments of steadiness in the middle of their grief.
You don’t have to move on. You just have to keep breathing.

Free PDF: Five Things I Wish I’d Known at Ground Zero Grief

Those first days and weeks after loss are brutal. Nothing makes sense, and most of what people say doesn’t help.
I wrote this short guide for anyone standing in that place - the ones trying to survive the unthinkable. It’s honest, simple, and written from someone who’s been there.

You can download it or read it right here, whatever feels easier.

A Feelings Wheel

There’s a wonderful tool called the Feelings Wheel that helps people name their emotions. But grief has its own language, and the usual wheels don’t quite fit. So I created one just for grief - a version that reflects what it really feels like when you’ve lost someone you love.

This wheel can help you put words to what you’re feeling, especially when everything inside you feels tangled and hard to name. You can read about it below. You can download it to use whenever you need it. Sometimes naming what you feel is the first step toward not feeling so alone inside it.
